How does the concern meter work?

Every phrase is rated on four levels:

• All Clear — harmless everyday slang
• Heads Up — mildly edgy but very common
• Pay Attention — worth a calm conversation
• Act Now — clear red flags with guidance

The app explains why something is flagged and suggests conversation starters where needed.

Does it work with Gen Alpha slang too?

Yes. The app is powered by live AI, not a static dictionary. It understands Gen Z, Gen Alpha, TikTok slang, and gaming terms — without needing an app update.

How do I use voice input?

Tap the microphone button and speak the phrase you want decoded. The app transcribes your speech and runs the translation automatically. Voice input requires a real iPhone — it does not work in the iOS Simulator.

Can I share results with someone else?

Yes. After decoding a phrase, tap the Share button at the top of the results. This opens the iOS share sheet and lets you send the full result — original phrase, translation, concern level, and conversation starters — via Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or any other app.

What are conversation starters?

When a phrase is flagged at the Pay Attention or Act Now level, the app writes 2–3 natural ways you could bring the topic up with your teen. They're phrased to open a conversation rather than trigger defensiveness — think curious and warm, not accusatory.

Does it work offline?

An internet connection is required. Slang Decoder uses a cloud AI to stay current with the latest slang — but it needs to be online to translate.

Is my data private?

We do not store your searches, create user profiles, or require an account. Phrases you enter are sent securely to our AI provider for processing and are not retained by us. See our Privacy Policy.

The app returned "Could not parse response" — what do I do?

This occasionally happens when the AI service has a brief hiccup. Try again in a moment — it nearly always resolves itself. If it persists, use the form here to let us know.

What iOS version do I need?

Slang Decoder requires iOS 17.0 or later. It runs on iPhone and iPad. Check your version in Settings → General → About.

Can I suggest new slang or report an inaccurate translation?

Yes — use the contact form here. Let us know the phrase and what the correct meaning should be. We review all submissions and use them to improve the app.
