Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the wait times come from?
Wait times are source-aware estimates. Some airports use official airport-published pages, widgets, or feeds. Airports without a stable public source use a deterministic historical planning model. The app labels the source near each result so you can tell what kind of estimate you are seeing.
Are the wait times live / real-time?
Some supported airports publish current checkpoint waits, and those appear as Live or Airport Published in the app. Other airports show source-labeled historical planning estimates. For the most precise travel-day answer, also check your airport's official website or the MyTSA app directly.
Which airports have airport-published sources?
Version 2.0 includes airport-published providers for ATL, BOS, BWI, CHS, CLE, CLT, CMH, CVG, DCA, DFW, DTW, ELP, EWR, GSP, HOU, IAH, JAX, JFK, LAS, LEX, LGA, MCO, MIA, MSP, ORD, PDX, PHL, PHX, PIT, PSP, SEA, SFO, SLC, and TUL. Additional airports use source-labeled planning estimates until a stable official public source is available.
What does the color coding mean?
Green (Short) — 0 to 10 minutes
Yellow (Moderate) — 11 to 20 minutes
Orange (Long) — 21 to 35 minutes
Red (Very Long) — 36 minutes or more

What happens if an airport feed fails?
If an airport-published feed changes, blocks requests, or cannot be parsed, the app falls back to the historical planning model and labels the result accordingly. Optional anonymous provider-health diagnostics may alert us so the source can be repaired.
What does the Flight Planner do?
The planner combines your flight time, drive time, expected TSA wait, check-in and boarding time, and extra buffer to calculate when to leave. If you recently checked the selected airport, the planner can reuse that latest wait estimate.
Why is my airport not listed?
TSA Wait Times covers major and regional US airports in the app's airport list. If your airport is missing, use the contact form on this page with the airport name and code and we'll prioritize adding it in a future update.
What is TSA PreCheck?
TSA PreCheck is an expedited security screening program run by the TSA. Enrolled travelers can use dedicated lanes where you don't need to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts, or light jackets. PreCheck lanes typically have significantly shorter wait times — often under 10 minutes. Learn more and enroll at tsa.gov/precheck.
Does the app store any of my personal data?
The app does not collect personal information. Favorites, lookup history, reminders, planner settings, and actual-wait logs are stored locally on your device. Optional provider-health diagnostics may send anonymous source-failure information, such as airport code and provider name, so broken airport feeds can be fixed. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
What iOS version is required?
TSA Wait Times requires iOS 17.0 or later on any iPhone.
How do I leave a review on the App Store?
You can leave a review directly on the App Store — scroll down to the Ratings & Reviews section and tap "Write a Review." Reviews help other travelers find the app — thank you!
Known Issues
-
In ProgressAirports without stable official public wait sources use source-labeled historical planning estimates. We continue to add official airport-published providers where feasible.
-
KnownProtected or partial airport sources, such as pages blocked by bot protection or feeds covering only one terminal, are skipped until they are stable enough for the app.
